Al-Badi

"The Incomparable Originator of wondrous worlds without precedent."

Meaning

The Incomparable Originator, who has no peer or example and who creates with consummate artistry — who creates without model and without matter, and who with ease brings into being things of ever astonishing beauty. Allah Almighty says: "Originator of the heavens and the earth." (Al-An'am, 101) "Originator of the heavens and the earth. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, 'Be,' and it is." (Al-Baqarah, 117) He is the peerless Creator of all the heavens and the earth. When none of the whole higher and lower world existed — when there was no law, no origin, no matter, no form, no specimen or model that could serve as an example or express any likeness — He is the exalted Creator who first brought these into being without precedent and created them; who created and brought forth from nothing the first individual and first example of every species; for whom such origination is His own way and an act particular to His essence; who therefore has no likeness, peer or equal and of whom none can even be conceived; and without whose existence and origination it would be impossible for anything non-existent to come into being or for anything to stand in existence. It is Allah who creates various things with no likeness or model before Him. For example, when there was previously no likeness of the human being, He brought him into existence from nothing and formed him in the finest manner. This is an eternal power of the Truth. Before this power we must bow and cling all the more to the Truth. Thousands of lessons are laid before us; we should look at them with that eye and evaluate them accordingly.
