Al-Quddus

The One free of every deficiency. Allah Almighty says: "Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth exalts Allah, the Sovereign, the Pure, the Exalted in Might, the Wise." (Al-Jumu'ah, 1) "He is Allah, other than whom there is no deity, the Sovereign, the Pure, the Perfection, the Bestower of Faith, the Overseer, the Exalted in Might, the Compeller, the Superior. Exalted is Allah above whatever they associate with Him." (Al-Hashr, 23) He is free of everything unbefitting His essence, most perfect in every quality, beyond all limitation and description, possessing in Himself every attribute of perfection, excellence and beauty that is worthy of praise. The name Al-Quddus means the utterly pure and utterly clean. It is impossible to find any shortcoming in Him. Servants are subject to the quality of erring, but the Lord is free of error. He is far removed from all that is unseemly and free of every human quality that appears in people. Human beings, whom Allah created in extreme weakness, make mistakes, forget, err and fall into heedlessness. They are at the same time profoundly deficient and powerless in both body and soul. Throughout their lives they must care for their bodies and constantly attend to them in order to survive. If they exert their bodies a little too much, or go a few days without sleep or a single day without water, they are reduced to utter helplessness. But Allah, the Creator of all things and the Owner of the most beautiful names, is of course free of every deficiency. The Muslim should always exalt Allah and declare Him free of every imperfection. Then he should purify and cleanse himself of all that is forbidden, all that is disliked, all that is doubtful and all permissible things that bring no benefit, and occupy himself with worshipping his Lord. He should strive to learn the knowledge that benefits him and to acquire noble character. The way to purify body and soul is to know Allah, to learn beneficial knowledge, and to act upon it.

Whoever recites the noble name Al-Quddus a hundred times every day, saying "Ya Quddus, jalla jalaluhu", his heart is purified and cleansed of sorrows. For the removal of lust and for the setting right of the heart and of character, it is recited 170 times as "Ya Quddus, jalla jalaluhu", and supplication is made. Whoever writes the above words on a piece of bread after the Friday prayer and then eats that bread, Allah Most High grants him openings in worship and he is kept safe from afflictions. Whoever withdraws into seclusion every day and recites the noble name Al-Quddus a thousand times, saying "Ya Quddus, jalla jalaluhu", Allah Most High sets his affairs in order and gives him strength and power in the world.
