An-Nafi

The Benefactor, who brings benefit to whom He wills, and without whose decree no benefit can be given to anyone. Allah Almighty says: "And whatever you have of favour — it is from Allah. Then when adversity touches you, to Him you cry for help." (An-Nahl, 53) "And if Allah should touch you with adversity, there is no remover of it except Him; and if He touches you with good — then He is over all things competent." (Al-An'am, 17) Benefit and harm are ever-present concepts for people. That benefit and harm are placed before them as a matter of testing in the life plan drawn for them is from Allah. It is He who creates both benefit and harm and decrees them for the human being, both as an individual and as a society. For a person to attribute benefit and harm to another besides Him, or to tie them to causes, is a grave wrong and means that he has not known Allah as He deserves to be known. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Know that the Pen has written what is to be and has dried. Henceforth, were all beings to wish to bring you a benefit Allah has not decreed for you, they would not be able to do so." It is not permissible to supplicate Allah with the name Ad-Darr alone. For this reason one must supplicate with both names (Ad-Darr and An-Nafi') together. Mentioning these two names together shows that Allah has power to bring benefit to whom He wills and harm to whom He wills — for one who does not have the power to harm or to benefit has neither existence nor effect. The benefits of knowing this name: Every Muslim should believe that there is no one besides Allah who brings benefit, and should know that benefit comes about by His will and act. There is no doer besides Allah. Everything that brings benefit to a believer is from Allah. Every benefit and advantage that comes from a servant comes about through Allah's directing that person. You too should let others benefit from the benefits Allah has provided you, and be a means for this. Through the good you do and the benefit you provide to others, you provide benefit for yourself in the Hereafter; thus these benefits become your intercessors in Allah's sight tomorrow. The Muslim should strive to bring benefit to every destitute and poor person.

The noble name An-Nafi' is recited 201 times as "Ya Nafi', jalla jalaluhu" in order to find healing from material and spiritual illnesses.
