Ar-Rahim

The Forgiving, the Compassionate — the One who in the Hereafter shows mercy to the believers alone and forgives their sins. Allah Almighty says: "The Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful." (Al-Fatihah, 3) "He is Allah, other than whom there is no deity, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed. He is the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful." (Al-Hashr, 22) In Paradise He will show us His countenance through the manifestation of the attribute Ar-Raheem. Those who depart this world without faith, deprived of belief, will not benefit from this magnificent name or its manifestation. In the Basmala and in Al-Fatihah we are always asking Allah Almighty for mercy and compassion through these names. The attribute "Raheem" is used in 115 verses of the Noble Qur'an, in the great majority of cases together with the attribute "Ghafur," meaning the Ever-Forgiving. This shows how forgiving and merciful Allah Almighty is. In four verses the phrase "Arham ar-Rahimin" (the Most Merciful of the merciful) is used. A reminder: The servant should meet the needs of those in want as far as he is able, and leave no poor person around him or in his land whose need he has not met. He should meet the needs of the destitute with money, or with his influence, or by directing them to what is good; and failing that, by approaching those who are wealthy and have a say in matters. If he is unable to do any of this, then he should share their sorrow and grief by making sincere supplication for them.

Whoever recites the noble name Ar-Rahim after every obligatory prayer, saying "Ya Rahim, jalla jalaluhu", is kept safe from heedlessness, forgetfulness and hardness of heart. Whoever recites the noble name Ar-Rahim after the dawn prayer, saying "Ya Rahim, jalla jalaluhu", all created beings show mercy to him. To be accepted and esteemed by everyone, it is recited 258 times as "Ya Rahim, jalla jalaluhu", and supplication is made. The heart of whoever recites the noble name Ar-Rahim a hundred times every day, saying "Ya Rahim, jalla jalaluhu", is softened and he becomes a person of compassion. If the noble name Ar-Rahim is written, water is placed over it and that water is poured onto the root of a tree, the fruits of that tree become abundant. If the noble name Ar-Rahim is written, placed in water and someone drinks of that water, he is drawn with affection to the one who wrote it. If the names of the seeker and the sought and of their mothers are written and this water is given to the person concerned, that person is drawn to him and cannot bear to be without him. This must be done only for what is permissible and lawful.
