6 Steps
  • The intention is made by saying, 'I intend to perform the obligatory Eid prayer, following the imam who is present.'
  • The prayer begins by saying 'Allahu Akbar.'
  • Then the imam and the congregation silently recite the 'Subhanake' prayer.
  • After the Subhanake, together with the imam, three takbirs of 'Allahu Akbar' are recited.
  • While reciting the takbirs, the hands are raised to the ears (as in the opening takbir), lowered to the sides in the first and second takbirs, and clasped below the navel in the third.
  • After the third takbir, with the hands clasped, the imam first recites the Fatiha, then a supplementary surah.
  • Saying 'Allahu Akbar,' they go into ruku (bowing) and say 'Subhana Rabbiyal-azim' three times.
  • Saying 'Sami'allahu limen hamideh,' they rise and say 'Rabbena lekel-hamd' while standing.
  • Saying 'Allahu Akbar,' they go into prostration (sajdah) and say 'Subhana Rabbiyal-ala' three times.
  • Saying 'Allahu Akbar,' they rise from prostration and sit down.
  • After waiting long enough to say 'Subhanallah,' one prostrates again saying 'Allahu Akbar' and says 'Subhana Rabbiyal-ala' three times.
  • Then, one stands up (for the second rak'ah) saying 'Allahu Akbar' and clasps the hands.
  • The Imam stands and recites the Fatiha and a supplementary surah.
  • Then, together with the Imam, three takbirs are recited saying 'Allahu Akbar.' While reciting the takbir, the hands are raised to the ears and then lowered to the sides.
  • They are lowered to the sides again on the third takbir.
  • On the fourth takbir, instead of raising the hands to the ears, one goes into ruku (bowing) and says 'Subhana Rabbiyal-azim' three times.
  • One rises saying 'Sami'allahu limen hamideh' and says 'Rabbena lekel-hamd' while standing.
  • Then, one prostrates saying 'Allahu Akbar' and says 'Subhana Rabbiyal-ala' three times.
  • After rising from prostration, one sits down, saying 'Allahu Akbar.' Then, saying 'Allahu Akbar,' one prostrates a second time and says 'Subhana Rabbiyal-ala' three times.
  • Saying 'Allahu Akbar,' one sits down.
  • While sitting, the following prayers are recited in order: Attahiyyat, Allahumma Salli, Allahumma Barik, Rabbana Atina...
  • First, turning the head to the right, one says 'Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah.' Then, turning the head to the left, one says 'Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah.'
  • The Eid prayer cannot be performed alone; it must be performed in congregation.
  • After the Eid al-Adha prayer, the Takbir of Tashriq is recited as follows: 'Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar. La ilaha illa Allahu wallahu Akbar. Allahu Akbar wa lillahi al-hamd.'
