Awwabin Prayer

The Evvabin prayer is a recommended (mustahab) voluntary prayer performed after the evening prayer (Maghrib). It can be performed with two to six rak'ahs, but it is more commonly performed as six rak'ahs. The word "Evvabin" is the plural of "evvab." Evvab means a person who immediately repents and seeks forgiveness for a sin they have committed. The six rak'ahs of the Evvabin prayer can be performed with one salam (greeting) or with a salam after every two rak'ahs. If one intends to make up for missed (qada) prayers while performing the Evvabin prayer, both the great rewards are attained and the missed qada debt is paid off.

How to Perform

4 Steps

After performing ablution for prayer, we make our intention and begin the prayer; "I intend to perform the Evvabin Prayer for the sake of Allah."

Say "Allahu Akbar" (Takbir al-Iftitah), clasp your hands, and begin the prayer.
Recite "Subhanaka,"
Say "A'uzu-Basmala,"
Recite Surah al-Fatiha,
Recite a Prayer Surah,
Say "Allahu Akbar" and bow down into Ruku' (bowing) and say "Subhana Rabbiyal-Azim" three times. While rising from Ruku', say "Sami Allahu Limen Hamideh," and when standing fully upright, say "Rabbena Lekel Hamd."
Say "Allahu Akbar" and prostrate twice, saying "Subhana Rabbiyal-A'la" three times.
Say "Allahu Akbar" and stand up, beginning the second rak'ah.

Say "Bismillah",
Recite Surah Al-Fatiha,
Recite a Prayer Surah,
Say "Allahu Akbar" and bow down into Ruku',
Say "Allahu Akbar" and go into Sajdah twice,
Go to the final sitting (Qa'da-i Akhira),
In the sitting position, recite Attahiyyat,
Recite "Allahumma Salli",
Recite "Allahumma Barik",
Recite "Rabbana Atina",
Recite "Rabbana Firli",
Say "Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah", first turning the head to the right with eyes looking at the shoulder, then turning to the left in the same way, and the prayer is completed.

Those who wish to perform the Evvabin prayer with 6 rak'ahs can complete it by performing this prayer two more times in sets of 2 rak'ahs each.
