Prayer GuideIshraq Prayer
Ishraq Prayer
The word Ishrak literally means rising, illuminating. The time between sunrise and the time the sun rises one or two spear lengths is called the Ishrak time. This is approximately 45 minutes. The Ishrak prayer is a voluntary prayer of two or four rak'ahs performed after this time, that is, after this time ends. The Ishrak prayer can be performed after the Fajr (morning) prayer and after the disliked time (kerahat time) has passed. Let us remember that performing prayers during the disliked times is not correct; it is makruh (disliked). Those who wish to perform this prayer pray it separately from and before the Duha (morning) prayer. The time for the Duha prayer begins when the Ishraq prayer is performed.
How to Perform
3 Steps
- After the Ishraq time begins, we perform ablution and face the Qibla.
- First, we make our intention: "I intend to perform the Ishraq prayer for the sake of Allah"
- We begin the first rak'ah of the prayer by saying the opening takbir (Allahu Akbar).
- After the takbir, the hands are clasped.
- First, the Subhanake supplication is recited.
- Say "Euzü-Besmele" and then recite Surah Fatiha.
- After Fatiha, recite a surah from the Quran.
- Once the surah recitation is complete, perform the bowing (ruku) and prostrations (sajdah) and begin the second rak'ah.
- In the second rak'ah, the Subhanake prayer is not recited; instead, say "Besmele" and recite Surah Fatiha.
- After Fatiha, recite a surah from the Quran.
- Once the surah recitation is complete, perform the bowing (ruku) and prostrations (sajdah) and then proceed to the final sitting position (Qa'da-i ahire).
- In the sitting position, recite "Ettahiyyatü," "Allahümme Salli," "Allahümme Barik," "Rabbena Atina," and "Rabbena Firli" in order.
- After the prayers are finished, give the salam and complete the prayer.
