Tahiyatul Masjid

Mosque prayer is when someone entering a mosque, if it is not a disliked time for prayer, performs two rak'ahs of prayer as a voluntary act for the sake of Allah. This is called "Tahiyyat al-Masjid" prayer. Performing mosque prayer means greeting the mosque. By performing Tahiyyat al-Masjid, a person entering a mosque greets Allah, showing their devotion, respect, and servitude to Him.

How to Perform

Tahiyyat al-Masjid should be performed upon entering a mosque, before sitting down. This is the most virtuous way.
The Prophet (saw) said: "When one of you enters the mosque, he should not sit down without performing two rak'ahs (supererogatory) prayers." (Bukhari)

The mosque prayer is not performed during the disliked time (kerahat vakti).
If someone is unable to perform it due to being busy, the disliked time, or lack of ablution, he should say: "Subhanallahi wa'l-hamdu lillahi wa la ilaha illallahu wa Allahu Akbar."
If one enters a mosque several times in a day, performing this prayer once is sufficient.
