Al-Jami

The Gatherer — who assembles whom He wills, when He wills and where He wills. Allah Almighty says: "He will surely assemble you for the Day of Resurrection." (An-Nisa, 87) "Indeed, Allah will gather the hypocrites and disbelievers in Hell all together." (An-Nisa, 140) "And the Horn will be blown, and We will assemble them in [one] assembly." (Al-Kahf, 99) "Our Lord, surely You will gather the people for a Day about which there is no doubt." (Al 'Imran, 9) "The Day He will assemble you for the Day of Assembly — that is the Day of Deprivation." (At-Taghabun, 9) "And brought together their hearts. If you had spent all that is in the earth, you could not have brought their hearts together; but Allah brought them together." (Al-Anfal, 63) "This is the Day of Judgement; We will have assembled you and the former peoples." (Al-Mursalat, 38) Al-Jami' is found among Allah's essential and active attributes. As an essential attribute, Al-Jami' means Allah's gathering within Himself and possessing all excellences and beautiful qualities — for all knowledge is with Him before it comes into being. This being so, would Allah's knowledge not encompass the knowledge concerning the beings He created by His own will and power? As an active attribute, the name Al-Jami' is used in the Qur'an mostly in this sense: He is truly the One who gathers together things that are scattered, alike and opposed to one another. It is Allah, whose glory is exalted, who brings the parts together and unites them, forms a particular composition and thereby grants them a particular structure. It is He who brings together hearts that love one another and causes them to draw close. It is He who, through the resurrection, gathers again the parts of the body that scattered and perished after death, and who reunites the soul and body that were entirely separated by death. It is He who on the Day of Resurrection will gather all people before Him and bring together the oppressor and the oppressed.

The noble name Al-Jami' is recited 114 times as "Ya Jami', jalla jalaluhu" in order to find a lost object and to bring about love, unity and togetherness between two people. Whoever persists in the noble name Al-Jami' attains his lawful aims.
