Al-Qadir

The One whose power reaches all things. Allah Almighty says: "Indeed, Allah is over all things competent." (Al-Baqarah, 148) "Yes, indeed; and He is over all things competent." (Al-Ahqaf, 33) His power suffices for whatever is in the earth and the heavens, and more besides. It is without doubt Allah who provides order for all the worlds we know and do not know and for their movements. Al-Qadir means the possessor of might and power. Al-Qadir is the One who does or does not do a thing when He wills. For Al-Qadir, willing is not a condition that must necessarily be present in order to do something. Allah is able to bring about the Resurrection even now. If He willed it, He could do it. But since the Resurrection has not occurred now, Allah does not will it for now. That Allah has appointed a term and an hour for the Resurrection through His eternal knowledge does not indicate any deficiency in His might and power. The Absolute Qadir is the One who brings every being into existence from nothing, alone and by His own will, without needing help from anyone — and this applies to Allah alone. It is He who creates the strength of His servants. He is the One who has power over all things, beneficial and harmful, good and evil; the absolutely Able One whose power encompasses all things. Every event that occurs is within Allah's knowledge and comes about by His saying "Be." Every leaf that falls upon the earth falls by His permission; no female conceives without His permission and no living thing gives birth outside His knowledge. Every event that occurs in the universe takes place only by His will. He has the power to bring a new people at once in place of a people who do not believe. He gives unprecedented dominion to whom He wills and strips all dominion from whom He wills. To a people who do not believe, punishment comes at a moment they never expected and in a manner they never expected. If He wills, He withdraws all the earth's abundance, dries it up and leaves upon it no trace of life. If He wills, He creates an entirely different world as wide as the earth. There is no power in the heavens or the earth that could render Allah powerless. He has power to do whatever He wills, however He wills.

The noble name Al-Qadir is recited 305 times as "Ya Qadir, jalla jalaluhu" so that one may have the power to attain what one desires and so that one's enemies may not harm one. Whoever makes remembrance with the noble name Al-Qadir 100 or 200 times after a prayer of two units, saying "Ya Qadir, jalla jalaluhu", becomes strong in worship both outwardly and inwardly.
