Al-Mudhill

The One who abases, who brings low and renders contemptible. Allah Almighty says: "...And that Allah will disgrace the disbelievers." (At-Tawbah, 2) "[Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled." (Al-Ghashiyah, 2) Being brought low and humiliated is part of the "worldly punishment" Allah inflicts upon the disbelievers. For disbelievers who spend their whole lives making a display before others and collecting their approval, being disgraced and humbled is an immense punishment. In many verses Allah informs us that there is a humiliating punishment for the disbelievers in the Hereafter. This is a penalty Allah has decreed in return for their pride and arrogance in the life of this world. For one of the greatest goals of the disbelievers in worldly life is to be admired by other people, and so they spend their lives not in praising Allah but in gathering praise for themselves. In response to this expectation, Allah has built their punishment in Hell upon precisely this. Their greatest devastation in Hell will be the experience of being belittled and humiliated before others. Al-Mudhill is the One who humbles the disbelievers in this world through servitude, tribute and abasement, and who humbles them in the Hereafter through punishment and eternal residence in Hell. Allah has humbled the rebellious by withholding His support from them, and so they have sunk into the mire of sin. When Allah wishes to humble a servant, He makes him a slave to his own desires and cravings, draws a veil between Himself and him, and distances him from calling upon Him. A reminder: They fear being humbled through acting contrary to Allah's commands and prohibitions, and so they never depart from obedience to Allah. In return, Allah honours them. And He humbles and abases those who act contrary to His commands and prohibitions, who do not walk the path He has set, and who show enmity toward Him.

The noble name Al-Mudhill is recited 770 times as "Ya Mudhill, jalla jalaluhu" in order to humble an enemy. The reciter attains the help of the Almighty and fears neither the malice of an enemy nor the oppression of a tyrant. Whoever persists in this name early every morning is kept safe from what he fears. If this noble name is recited 570 times and one then goes into prostration, the supplication is answered. For protection from the envy of the envious, the noble name Al-Mudhill is recited 75 times; then, if one falls into prostration and supplicates, Allah Most High protects him from the envy of the envious.
