Al-Wali

"The Protecting Friend of the righteous believers."

Meaning

The Helper and Friend — the One who is a friend to His believing servants and helps them. Allah Almighty says: "Allah is the ally of those who believe. He brings them out from darknesses into the light..." (Al-Baqarah, 257) "That is because Allah is the protector of those who have believed and because the disbelievers have no protector." (Muhammad, 11) It occurs in 13 places in the Noble Qur'an. He loves His believing and righteous servants, is their friend and guardian, opens for them the paths of good, and grants them success in this. His being the Protecting Friend of His righteous servants is a reality — a truth observed again and again in the life experience of believing and God-fearing people through the support He provides and the success He grants them. A person has one true friend both in this world and the next. This friend never abandons him or leaves him, is beside him in every hardship and helps him. From the day he is born to the day he dies, He is always with him. He protects him against his enemies. He is more trustworthy than anyone for him and always gives without expecting return. Without doubt this friend is Allah, our Lord. Allah is the believers' most trusted, closest friend. He purifies those who believe in Him from every deficiency and error, and promises them a most distinguished life and, in the Hereafter, His dominion that will never be exhausted. Throughout life a person searches for someone or some power he can truly trust, who will remove his distress in every circumstance, who is rich and capable. But while searching for this he forgets our Lord, who has already created him, who sustains his life, who possesses immense strength and has power to do all things. He takes as a friend Satan, who contributes nothing to him but evil and who prevents him from having a share in Paradise in the Hereafter. This is the beginning of a dark world for him. As for those who believe in Allah and are sincere in their faith, they enter a life of honour and goodness in which there is no defeat. For Allah will grant victory to the believers as long as they remain faithful to His religion and His words. And the truly great recompense He will give them in the Hereafter. Allah is the only true friend of the believers in this world and the next. The Muslim should take as a friend the one who takes him as a friend, and should help him. The Muslim should not take as confidants and friends those who are not of them. For a servant to be a friend of Allah means that he believes in Him, affirms and confirms everything that comes from Him, carries out His commands, avoids His prohibitions, trusts and relies on Him alone, submits to Him in all his states — open and hidden, in abundance and in hardship — and loves only Him and His Messenger. Allah never withholds His guidance, His help and His knowledge from His friends.

Havas and Its Secrets

The noble name Al-Waliyy is recited, saying "Ya Waliyy, jalla jalaluhu", in order to become a friend (wali) of Allah. So that children who wake up frightened from their sleep may be delivered from their fears, it is recited 46 times as "Ya Waliyy, jalla jalaluhu". The affairs of whoever recites 1,000 times every Friday night, saying "Ya Waliyy, jalla jalaluhu", are made easy.
