Al-Adl

The Possessor of absolute justice, utterly just, who through His justice takes the right of the wronged from the oppressor. Allah Almighty says: "And the word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and in justice..." (Al-An'am, 115) Allah possesses absolute justice in all His words and deeds. His decision is right and His judgement is just. He grants His blessing and bounty to whom He wills or withholds it. He honours or abases, raises or lowers, bestows or withholds, hastens or defers, benefits or harms, protects or leaves unprotected, enriches or impoverishes, grants health or sends illness, sends trial or exempts from it. Allah does all of this as He wills, according to the decision He makes, because He possesses absolute authority. If Allah were to punish all beings — including the prophets and messengers, the angels nearest to Him and the righteous servants — as He punishes the rebellious and the disbelievers, this would still be counted from His justice. Allah's punishing everyone would be from His justice, His showing mercy from His bounty, and His dividing them into two groups from His wisdom. For this reason some scholars have said: "We seek refuge in Allah from Allah's justice. We ask of Him His bounty and generosity, and we seek the good side of His wisdom." Every Muslim should know that there is no possessor of absolute justice besides Allah; that every just person and every justice they apply comes from Allah; and that every judgement not from Him is oppression and falsehood. He should then accept everything Allah has decreed and carried out for him and submit to Him sincerely. He should never depart from justice in any of his words, deeds or judgements.

The noble name Al-Adl is recited 104 times as "Ya Adl, jalla jalaluhu" so that one may not deviate from justice and one's uprightness may be set right. Whoever writes the noble name Al-Adl on twenty-five pieces of bread on a Friday night and eats them, Allah Most High makes all creatures subservient to him.
