Al-Aziz

The undefeated and sole Victor — the One whom it is impossible to overcome. Against His command and will the whole universe carries not an atom's weight of authority. Allah Almighty says: "...And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise." (Ibrahim, 4) It occurs in ninety-one places in the Noble Qur'an, but nowhere is it mentioned on its own; it always appears together with another of the Beautiful Names. Allah's attribute Al-Aziz expresses that He can never be defeated and that it is always He who prevails. Allah possesses absolute power in the universe and there is no might superior to His. He is never overcome in any way or form, and He has power over all things. He is too mighty for any wrong to be done to Him. He is the most superior, the most exalted, the possessor of honour and might. He is utterly majestic, honourable and glorious. He is never overcome and prevails in all His affairs. He has no peer or likeness and is exceedingly high — as expressed in the verse: "Nor is there to Him any equivalent." (Al-Ikhlas, 4) At the same time He does not love baseness, immorality, disbelief, oppression, corruption, rebellion or ingratitude. Knowing His power and keeping Him in mind leads one to withdraw from sins and to occupy oneself with beneficial deeds. Allah is the Absolute Ruler; guidance and governance are in His hand. Without His protection and care one cannot be protected; without His help one cannot succeed. Sincerely acknowledging one's own helplessness allows one to witness the might of Allah.

The noble name Al-Aziz is recited 94 times as "Ya Aziz, jalla jalaluhu", together with supplication, in order to humble one's enemies, to possess honour and dignity among people, and to be safe from one's fears. Whoever recites it a hundred times for seven days, his adversary is brought to ruin. Whoever persists in reciting this noble name forty times a day for forty days, saying "Ya Aziz, jalla jalaluhu", Allah Most High makes him honoured, grants him wealth out of His bounty and generosity, and does not make him dependent upon His servants. If it is recited seventy thousand times while pointing with the hand towards an enemy army, saying "Ya Aziz, jalla jalaluhu", by Allah's leave the enemy is routed. Whoever recites this noble name forty times after the dawn prayer for forty days, saying "Ya Aziz, jalla jalaluhu", Almighty Allah does not make him dependent upon anyone.
