Al-Muta'ali

The Most Exalted — supremely high, the highest of the high, far above everything the mind can conceive. Allah Almighty says: "[He is] Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, the Grand, the Exalted." (Ar-Ra'd, 9) "And He is the Most High, the Most Great." (Al-Baqarah, 255) "Exalt the name of your Lord, the Most High." (Al-A'la, 1) There is no exaltedness above the exaltedness of Allah. Allah is higher than every superior and lofty station. Allah is exalted in His own essence, and for this reason He is higher than all things. In His exaltedness Allah has no fault or defect. He is absolutely the Most High. Just as He is flawless and perfect in knowledge, power, life, generosity, mercy and all His other attributes, so too He is without deficiency or fault in exaltedness. This exaltedness of His is not in terms of direction or place, for He is free of direction and place. Everything is under His power and authority. In praising created beings one must particularly avoid exaggeration and must never exalt any created thing with a style and emphasis that reaches this meaning. This concept describes Allah alone and must be reserved for Him. Some people, despite the countless proofs around them, cannot appreciate Allah's grandeur and exaltedness. Though they are utterly powerless, they see themselves as great and never consider the One who created them. The cause of this feeling of arrogance is possessing a self that commands to evil. Those who believe, however, know how powerless a being the human is before Allah's exaltedness and that he can accomplish nothing on his own. Every point of the universe reflects Allah's greatness — yet it can never suffice to express His infinite power and knowledge. Allah is free of every partnership, fault, deficiency and limit. He is the sole Owner of all lofty attributes and all beautiful names. His knowledge, His wisdom, His strength, His power, His mercy, His compassion, His bounty and His beneficence are infinite. "Infinite" is a concept that must be well reflected upon in order to grasp Allah's greatness. After their death Allah will create people with a new creation, and thereafter will begin their eternal life, which will continue in Paradise or in Hell as the recompense of what they did in this world. What is spoken of here is not a hundred, not a thousand, not a hundred thousand or a billion years, not a trillion or a quadrillion times a quadrillion years, but a life that will last for ever. Yet Allah possesses such immense knowledge that everything that is "infinite" to a human being is within His knowledge. He is the One who determines and knows every event and every thought, with its time and its form, from the moment time was first created to eternity.

The noble name Al-Muta'ali is recited 1,000 times a day for seven consecutive days, saying "Ya Muta'ali, jalla jalaluhu", for the destruction of an enemy. The noble name Al-Muta'ali is recited 541 times as "Ya Muta'ali, jalla jalaluhu" in order to prevail over enemies and for one's word to be accepted by everyone. If a woman in her monthly period recites the noble name Al-Muta'ali during those days, saying "Ya Muta'ali, jalla jalaluhu", Allah Most High sets her state right and puts her affairs in order.
